Eye Health Conditions and Diseases

By age 65, one in three Americans has some form of vision-impairing eye disease. Most do not know it because there are often no warning symptoms or they assume that poor sight is a natural part of growing older.

In many cases blindness is preventable. By clicking on any of the eye topics listed below you will be directed to the Eye Care America website. Medem was founded by the AMA and several national medical societies to provide health information to physicians and patients.

The Foundation of the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Museum of Vision has created an entire curriculum to teach children about the fascinating and spectacular science of vision. The free teacher workbooks focus on the human eye, the differences between human and animal vision, and how the brain processes images like optical illusions and 3D. The guides are filled with discussion points and fun interactive activities. The guides provide curriculum and educational activities suitable for children age 10 to 14.
